Tax Credits for Insulation!
The Federal government has initiated tax credits for the installation of insulation in both new and existing homes! The new program for adding thermal insulation is essentially the same program that expired at the end of 2007. However, the tax credit program is now called "The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009". Please keep in mind, however, that the Home Improvement tax credits begin Jan. 1, 2009 and extend to Dec. 31, 2010 in the new plan.
1. Existing Home - adding insulation:
Tax credits cover 30% of the insulation cost, up to a total credit amount of $1500.00. A Manufacturers Certification Statement is required - Applegate's Certification Statement.
2. New Construction:
Home builders are eligible for a $2,000 tax credit for a new energy efficient home that achieves 50% energy savings for heating and cooling over the 2004 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) and supplements. At least 1/5 of the energy savings must come from building envelope improvements. For complete information please see ENERGY STAR's website.
3. To help you get going on receving your tax credits, please click below for the DOE's recommended R-Values to see how much insulation you need to keep you toasty in the winter and cool in the summer.
4. For information regarding additional home tax crdits (such as for windows, HVAC, doors, heat pumps, etc.) please visit ENERGY STAR.
